The swim teams of the Local Masters Swim Committee in North Carolina are organized in two different ways. Our LMSC chose to have one large club, North Carolina Masters Swimming. Since the number of masters swimmers in North Carolina is small, and only a small number of swimmers go to out of state and national meets, it was decided to form one large club from within the state so those going to these meets could compete together as one club from North Carolina and hopefully form relay teams to participate in the relay events. Generally, there are not enough swimmers from each team to form a relay team at these far away meets. The individual teams in the North Carolina Masters Swimming club are called chapters.
For 2002, only one small club remained independent (XMEN), all others were a part of North Carolina Masters Swimming Club. Each individual team that chose to be a member of the large club North Carolina Masters Swimming is still run independently as a team in North Carolina, and participate at swim meets held in North Carolina as an independent chapter. When North Carolina Meets are held, the individual chapters score points to see which team wins the meet. Swimmers compete in Relays both with their own chapter, and/or can swim for the North Carolina Masters Swimming club in relays. The NCMS club does not score points against any other chapter or club.
Also swimmers can register unattached from any club or chapter, or alternatively, if a swimmer wants to swim out of state with the North Carolina Masters Swimming club, but not belong to a chapter, then they can just register with North Carolina Masters Swimming club and not designate a chapter.
I hope this is not too confusing, but perhaps the following list of teams in North Carolina will explain. Also, if you click on the reference, you will be taken to a page where each team's information is displayed. The information is team name, swim pool location, practice times, person to contact for information, directions to swimming pool, costs to belong and work out with the team, and other information of interest about the team.
