The annual Frank Clark Swim Meet in Greensboro, hosted by Triad Masters Swimming, was held on Saturday, March 5, 2011, and, as always, it was a wonderful half-day event.
The meet was well attended with about 75 swimmers, resulting in some fast times and good competition. Further, with the invaluable assistance of members of GSA acting as Meet Director and timing/scoring co-coordinator and local swimming officials, the meet moved smoothly and glitch free.

This year the relatively new team, YOTA, from Raleigh sent a large group as did the Four Seasons YMCA of Tazewell County, Virginia, many of whom were participating in their first ever Masters meet.   With so many rookie swimmers in attendance, it was exciting to see the swarms of people at the awards table collecting their blue, red, and white ribbons, and sometimes even green, yellow, or pink ribbons (4th, 5th, & 6th places) as mementos of their first meet.  Of course, as evidenced by span of over 60 years from the youngest to the oldest swimmer, many veterans were also in attendance.

Although the meet has, for years, been held at the Grimsley High School pool, a cheer and applause echoed throughout the natatorium when the announcement was made that the 2012 edition of the meet will be on Saturday, March 3, 2012 at the new (so new it won’t be completed until this summer) Greensboro Aquatic Center, site of the US Masters National Championships later that spring.  Triad Masters Swimming anticipates that many masters swimmers from North Carolina and the surrounding states will want to attend next year’s event to swim in the new, state-of-the-art pool and as a warm-up for Nationals.

Thanks to everyone who attended this year’s meet.  We look forward to seeing you again at next year’s event and at all of the other masters meets in between.  SWIM FAST!
