Bowker Aquatic Club BAC
Goal- To bring together active adults who want to improve their swimming in a fun team environment. BAC is here to serve the Triathlon and Masters Swimming needs of Winston Salem, by providing thoughtful instruction on how to swim faster stronger and longer through proper technique and purposeful workouts. Bowker Aquatic Club is a workout group within the North Carolina Masters Swimming Club
Coaches-
Coach Chris Bowker (Head coach) starcoachchris@gmail.com
Coach Tim Hillen (Assistant coach)
Coach Bev Amick (Assistant Coach)
Practice Facility-
BAC will practice at the YWCA Gateway Facility (1300 South Main Street Winston-Salem, NC 27127 336-354-1589). This facility has a very nice 11 lane pool with great air quality. The pool also has a UVA cleansing system that requires less chemicals than most pools. You do not have to have a YWCA membership, but we do encourage you to support the facility.
Practice Schedule
- 5:45*-7:30am Monday/Wednesday/Friday
- 11:30am-12:30pm Tuesday/Thursday
*This Start time is pending on if the YWCA will open this early next year. Since this is an early start time I understand if you come in late, as long as you don't mind jumping in the work out where ever we are.
Practice Descriptions-
At all practices the coaching staff will try to meet the needs of all the swimmers no matter what level you are. The mornings will typically be more rigorous and the lunch time more technique focused. But I do not want to discourage anyone from attending any practice. There are certainly all levels at all practices. I would just like to set up expectations. Please make sure that you can swim 2 laps without stopping and are comfortable floating on your back. Here is a brief description of how practice will be structured.
- Monday and Wednesday Mornings- There will be two works on the board for this workout time. One workout will be for intermediate to advance swimmers. It is will have a technique focus built into the workout. The other work out will have drills broken out separately, which will be more beginner friendly. The practice distances will range from 3500-5000yds.
- Friday Morning- The practice will be written on the board and will be a strictly a workout. There will be two options. Typically there will be a cardio (distance) or more speed (intense) workout , or a freestyle (Triathlete) or stroke option (Master Swimmer). These practice will range from 4000-500yds
- Tuesday and Thursday Lunch- Each one of these days will have a training focused and technique focused work out to choose from. These work outs will generally be more beginners focused. These practices will range from 2000-3000yds.
